Major/Essential Functions
  • Builds and sustains an independent, externally funded research program
  • Embraces the vision of the new Center of Emphasis in Diabetes & Metabolism, engages in the Center’s and Department’s activities, and interacts with other members of the Center, Department and Institution in a collegial, team-oriented fashion
  • Participates in team-taught courses in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and/or the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine
  • Mentors medical and graduate students in research
  • Engages in service to the academic and regional community
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable institutional, state and federal policies and procedures, especially those pertaining to research
  • Adheres to all institutional and departmental policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine’s Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility
  • For M.D. applicants, clinical service is an option

Preferred Qualifications
  • Research experience in one or more of the following areas: (1) islet cell biology, including beta-cell differentiation and regeneration, (2) metabolic consequences of sleep-disordered breathing, including sleep apnea, (3) genetics, genomics, and/or epigenetics of diabetes and related metabolic disorders
  • M.D. applicants will need to be board-certified and to obtain Texas medical licensure

Required Qualifications
Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held. Required Qualifications
  • M.D., Ph.D., M.D.-Ph.D., or an equivalent degree with appropriate postgraduate training
  • Biomedical and/or Translational Research experience in diabetes, obesity and/or related metabolic disorders with expertise in one or more of the following areas: disease mechanisms and pathophysiology, early disease development and progression, biomarker development, proteomics, metabolomics, genomics, diagnostics or experimental therapeutics
