Major/Essential Functions
  • Contributes to the university’s mission through teaching, research and service, some variation by academic unit
  • erves as Director of Clinical Services for the Division of Medical Toxicology
  • Serves as Consultant in Medical Toxicology for the West Texas Regional Poison Center
  • Develops and implements consult service for inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Develops and implements an environmental/occupational health toxicology clinic
  • Supervises medical toxicology fellows, residents, and students
  • Provides performance evaluation, skill testing, and mentoring of residents, fellows, and medical students
  • Provides patient care in the Emergency Department
  • Participates in resident and faculty recruitment.
  • Serves as medical control physician for El Paso EMS while on duty in Emergency Department
  • Assists Department Chair with implementation of department policies and monitoring staffing effectiveness
  • Participates in national societies including ACEP, SAEM, ACMT, AACT
  • Participates in medical research projects relating to emergency medicine
  • Participates in medical school and hospital committees
  • Assist with development and implementation of special departmental projects; conference presentations to residents, students, nurses, and EMT's
  • Participates in chart audits and other clinical performance improvement efforts; attends and participates in morbidity-mortality and journal club conferences
  • Demonstrate professionalism in accordance wit the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility
  • Adherence to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures
  • Attends mandatory training provided and required by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso

Preferred Qualifications
  •  Knowledge of or training in research, pediatric emergency medicine, occupational and environmental medicine, or preventative medicine
  • Experience in teaching residents and medical students
  • Evidence of growth in clinical, teaching, and research activities relating to the specialty
  • Knowledge of Medical Spanish
  • CLS/PALS/ATLS Certifications
  • Regional or emerging national reputation for the rank of Associate Professor or higher

Required Qualifications
Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held. Minimum Qualifications:
  • MD or DO
  • Successful completion of ACGEM-accredited residency program in emergency medicine
  • Successful completion of ACGME-accredited fellowship program in medical toxicology or equivalent experience
  • Valid unrestricted medical license or eligibility for medical license in Texas
  • Board certification in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine
  • Board certification in Medical Toxicology by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine
