Major/Essential Functions
- Serves as Consultant to the West Texas Regional Poison Center (as appointed), supervising pharmacists, nurses, poison specialists, and other duties as assigned
- Assists the division in obtaining ACGME approval for a new fellowship program in Medical Toxicology, and servers as the program director or associate program director
- Supervises medical toxicology fellows, residents, and medical students on site and off site
- Provides performance evaluation, skill testing, and mentoring of residents, fellows, and medical students
- Provides patient care in the Emergency Department
- Provides medical toxicology consultation services to inpatients and outpatients
- Participates in resident and faculty recruitment
- Serves as medical control physician for El Paso EMS while on duty in emergency department
- Assists Department Chair with implementation of departmental policies and monitoring staffing effectiveness
- Participates in national societies including AACT, ACMT, ACEP and SAEM
- Participates in one research project relating to emergency medicine; participates in medical school and hospital committees
- Assist with development and implementation of special departmental projects
- Delivers presentations in conferences for residents, fellows, medical students, nurses, and emergency medical technicians
- Participates in chart audits and other clinical performance improvement efforts
- Attends and participates in morbidity-mortality and journal club conferences
- Demonstrate professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility
- Adherence to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures
- Attends mandatory training provided and required by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge or training in research, pediatric emergency medicine, or occupational and environmental medicine, or preventative medicine
- Experience in teaching residents and medical students; evidence of growth in clinical, teaching, and research activities relating to the specialist
- Knowledge of Medical Spanish
- ACLS/PALS/ATLS certification
- Regional or emerging national reputation for the rank of Associate Professor or higher

Required Qualifications
- Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held.

Minimum Qualifications:
- MD or DO
- Successful completion of ACGEM-accredited residency program in emergency medicine
- Successful completion of ACGME-accredited fellowship program in medical toxicology or equivalent experience
- Valid unrestricted medical license or eligibility for medical license in Texas
- Board certification in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine
- Board certification in Medical Toxicology by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine
