Major/Essential Functions
  • Participates in course administration and instruction for the dental school curriculum
  • Develops and delivers an integrated curriculum, which blends basic science, clinical, and public health concepts in collaboration with faculty members in other disciplines
  • Employs multiple teaching methods including case-based instruction, large- and small-group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, audience systems, team-based learning, and distance education
  • Provides formative and summative assessment of dental student performance
  • Provides individual support, feedback, and advice to dental students
  • Works closely with the course and fellow faculty, curriculum committees, and key administrators to accomplish the goals and objectives of the dental school's curriculum
  • Engages with and monitors the student-to-community group events, student practicums and research projects to  improve dental public health in west Texas
  • Engages in scholarship and academically-related public service
  • If licensed for dentistry, work with external clinics and community dental events
  • Adheres to institutional policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in teaching public health or dental public health, especially clinically-integrated human public health or dental public health for dental students
  • Experience in teaching epidemiology, statistics, and/or research skills for dental students
  • Experience in the use of clinical case-based scenarios in the teaching of public health or dental public health
  • Experience in development and delivery of an integrated dental curriculum
  • Experience with innovative teaching methods such as interactive large and small group formats, student project instruction, team-based learning, case-based learning, problem-based learning, audience systems, and distance education
  • Experience with electronic learning management software systems
  • Participation in national organizations or committees devoted to dental education
  • Experience in dental education scholarship
  • Experience in the development of grant proposals and the management of extramural funding
  • Emerging or established regional or national reputation for associate professor or higher rank

Required Qualifications
  • Dr.P.H., Ph.D. or equivalent degree in public health or dental public health; or D.M.D./D.D.S. from CODA accredited school with M.P.H. in public health or dental public health
  • A minimum of three-years experience in teaching public health or dental public health at the level of higher education
  • Texas Dental Licensure or eligibility for an unrestricted Texas Dental License for dentist candidates
