Position Description
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Student Services is responsible for the overall management, planning, administration, and evaluation of the programs, services, personnel, policies, procedures, and budget of the TTUHSC El Paso Office of Student Services and Student Engagement (OSSSE). The AVP plays a principal role in setting and enacting TTUHSC El Paso’s priorities affecting student affairs, and works collaboratively across divisions with senior leaders, faculty and staff in support of co-curricular programs and activities that advance student learning and development. In addition to supporting and mentoring a motivated and innovative team of Student Affairs staff, the AVP will ensure that the department is engaged in best practices with respect co-curricular experiences for students.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Planning and leadership for SSSE  to support students’ academic and professional goals across  all TTUHSC El Paso component schools in compliance with governmental regulations, accreditation standards and university policies
  • Oversees the SSSE staff, budget and policies- including student financial aid, registrar’s office, academic and disability support services, and student wellness (student health services, counseling services)
  • Develop and assess current and future services, products, facilities, procedures and policies for students
  • Cultivates collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff and administration to foster a positive, equitable and inclusive learning environment and diverse student body
  • Supports student governance including the Student Government Association, student organizations and student life programs
Position Specific:
  • Bachelor's degree required in the appropriate field based on assigned area of responsibility plus a master’s degree or doctoral degree in higher education administration and leadership or a closely related field.
  • At least eight years of professional and management experience in higher education relating to student services and/or student affairs.

  • Experience with supervising and developing student services;
  • Organization and team development;
  • Applying best practices for student activities and wellness programming;
  • Management of student conduct and grievance processes;
  • Demonstrated understanding of behavioral intervention teams;
  • Knowledge of student disability/accessibility services;
  • Production of academic ceremonies such as convocations and commencements;
  • Ellucian Banner Student;
  • Operational understanding of Title IV financial aid administration and compliance; and
  • Experience with budget preparation and the oversight of common business operations in a large institutional setting.
  • Additional job-related education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
