Position Description
Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operation and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Works under general supervision of research director with board latitude.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Works closely with the faculty director of the research division/ cancer prevention and control to plan, coordinate and manage the running of the center. Supervises the operation and activities of the division/center, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Includes hiring, allocation of space, anticipating future needs
  • Directly supervises employees and assures all staff maintain a high quality of standards and perform proper job functions
  • Responsible for ensuring implementation of projects is compliant with all relevant institutional, State and Federal policies, including regulatory, research and financial and plans the preparation for Audits
  • Responsible for coordinating staff education and training, in research ethics, IRB, HIPPA, etc.
  • Monitor budgets with project directors to ensure proper application and ensure all research related quotes, invoicing, and payments are timely and compliant with federal, state, and institutional policies
  • Supervises the research staff to develop project materials, study protocols and IRB applications as directed by the research investigators
  • Track and maintain student completion of assignments related to translational research and patient education. Assist faculty with delivery of the patient education selective to medical students
  • Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies, procedures and processes
  • Personally demonstrate, display, and act in accordance with TTUHSCEP’s values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Actively promote and encourage staff across the institution

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field
  • Four years of related administrative and technical experience
  • Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

  • Must have significant management and supervisory experience in the research setting
  • Must possess significant knowledge of regulatory policies related to research ethics and compliance Must be knowledgeable about research related purchasing and accounting processes and policies at TTUHSC
  • Knowledge of data organization and management
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative environment, and coordinate with colleagues at varying organizational levels
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise team members
  • Good organizational, communication and supervisory skills
