Position Description
Employees in this position are responsible for the development, coordination and administration of a comprehensive outpatient Multispecialty Clinic Practice at Texas Tech Health Science Center, Transmountain Campus, including direction, supervision, organization and evaluation of patient care and nursing services within assigned specialties or sub-specialties areas in the ambulatory clinics. Individuals in this position provide supervision and direction to subordinate personnel, coordinating the medical services in order to provide an efficient and professional environment for optimum production in health care for the patient. Supervisory duties include but are not limited to interviewing applicants for vacant staff and nursing positions and making the final selection, maintaining personnel records regarding leave time, evaluations, and personnel problems, conducting employee evaluations, approving and coordinating leave time for personnel, and assisting employees in setting work-related goals. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Oversee and assist clinic managers and/or staff with operation and maintenance of all new, specialized, and established equipment to include but not limited to medical and medication supplies and inventory.
  • Attend administrative, supervisory, committee, and staff meetings for continued development of clinic.
  • Work closely with Infection Control, Sterilization and Quality Improvement managers to ensure appropriate cleaning and sterilization process are in place and to resolve any issues encountered.
  • Training or training oversight of clinic staff in front-desk and in-clinic functions directly nursing related, including use of software instruments, processing orders, retrieving clinical data, intake and discharge of patients, among others referring to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Operating Policy and Procedure 70.11.
  • Work with Quality Improvement to audit and monitor performance data to improve staff performance and patient care. Investigate and remediate alleged deficiencies in clinic staff performance referring to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Operating Policy and Procedure 70.31, Employee Conduct, Coaching, Corrective Action and Termination.
  • Consult, Coordinate, and collaborate with outside resources (e.g. hospitals, Surgical Centers, patient resource centers, such as interpreter’s services etc.)
  • Monitor and assist with distribution of staff in between clinics as needed.
  • Serves as a point of contact for the physicians, particularly medical directors, nurse manager, clinic office manager, facilitator, staff and administration and intervenes and handles patient complaints and concerns, taking necessary measures to correct their situation.
  • Perform other related duties as deemed necessary by the Sr. Clinical Dept. Admin.

Preferred Qualifications
Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish. Advanced level in computer skills. Experienced in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) process. Experience in Joint Commission process. Experience in developing and writing policies. Experience with MS Office. Familiarity with medical procedures, computers. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people. Nursing degree preferred.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

  • Analyzes the appointment scheduling system. Reviews data regarding provider availability, waiting time, and no-show rate.
  • Interacts with MPIP staff to resolve and or review patient accounts, statistical data, accounts receivable, etc.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field required plus six years administrative or management experience. Additional education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
