Position Description
Employees in this classification provide patient care management to an assigned clinic in the areas of clerical and clinical duties. In clinical setting, the employee receives direct supervision from physician or nursing supervisor in either oral or written form. In office setting, the employee receives direct supervision from department administrator. Work is performed under usual office and clinic conditions. May be stressful when working under emergency conditions.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Receives and greets patients for GI clinics in particular. Communicate medical findings, scan report, and laboratory results with PI
  • Triage patient calls and walk-ins.
  • Receives incoming calls and tracks telephone progress note for assigned physician.
  • Discharges patient after they are seen by physician.
  • Prepares clinic for next day according to assignment for the day.
  • Serves as runner in assisting clinic and patients as assigned.
  • Screen potential study patients - evaluate protocol defined inclusion and exclusion criteria.
  • Collect and process routine clinical samples (i.e. blood, urine) and label specimens appropriately and assure prompt shipping if to outside laboratory.   • Maintains proper availability of study drug & laboratory supplies in the storage room. Maintains supplies needed for research studies. Maintains study drug supply for PI (when applicable).

Preferred Qualifications
1 year documented, paid work in medical clinic, hospital, or other patient care setting. Willing to work extended hours and on weekends on occasion. - Preferred bilingual: English/Spanish. - Preferred additional clinical medical training preferably in Gastrointestinal diseases in adults. - Preferred phlebotomy experience and other basic clinical skills such as taking vital signs - (Ht. Wt, BP, HR, temp), performing ECGs. - Preferred experience working with EMR/EHR systems - Basis computer literacy and proficient typical computer programs such as Microsoft Office. - Experience working on human subject research studies highly desirable.

Required Qualifications
Education:  
  •  A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent. 

License/Certification: 
  • Graduation from an approved certified program for assistants in the area of required specialty.
  • Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency in the specialty that particular work will be performed.
