Position Description
Reviews official medical records with physician/healthcare provider documentation and assigns appropriate codes for all physician/healthcare provider services from current editions of official coding sources. Ensures accurate, complete, and timely code assignments for all physician/healthcare providers.

Major/Essential Functions
Demonstrates knowledge in the use of
ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and other
authorized coding material. Demonstrates
knowledge in the use of ETM, GE
Centricity (CBIZ), Cerner, EMR, and
other assigned systems.
Audits and codes medical record
documentation (inpatient/outpatient) using
the Official Coding Guidelines. Ability to
apply and assign principal diagnoses and
procedures, sequence codes appropriately
and append the appropriate modifiers with
accuracy to avoid rejections/denials.
Meets or exceeds the coding standards set
by the Institution.
Assists the billing supervisor and manager
with internal/external medical record
coding audits. Reviews and validates audit
findings for accuracy. Knowledgeable in
the use of the audit tool to validate the
provider’s level of service.
Works and resolves ETM TES and CAR
edits, pending rejections and denials using
the ETM Enterprise Task Manager.
Other duties as assigned.

Position Specific:
Good Organizational and time management skills. Knowledgeable in the various managed care plans. Enters data from document to key entry on a daily basis. Process information for compiling, coding, calculating, tabulating, auditing or
verifying information or data. Ability to read and understand information from source document and/or encounter. Ability
to perform detailed work rapidly and accurately. Ability to make simple repeated movements of the fingers, hands. and wrists. Data entry must be done within the 24-72 hours of receiving coded fee ticket. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software;
Problem-solving skills and self-starter; Must have the ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Ability to
communicate effectively, excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions; ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Understanding of medical terminology. Dependable in both production and attendance. Must be able to be bonded.
Willing to work extended hours and on weekends on occasion.

Pay Statement
Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

Required Qualifications
* A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus at least two (2) years of coding and reimbursement experience that includes procedural and diagnosis coding. OR * A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus successful completion of a recognized procedural and diagnosis coding course.
