Position Description
Reviews official medical records with physician/healthcare provider documentation and assigns appropriate codes for all physician/healthcare provider services from current editions of official coding sources. Ensures accurate, complete, and timely code assignments for all physician/healthcare providers.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Responsible for auditing and coding outpatient clinic records, applies appropriate diagnosis and procedure code to services rendered
  • Responsible for reviewing patient accounts for appropriate financial status classification and performing updates
  • Responsible for applying compliance policy guidelines
  • Works BCCS accounts providing codes and maintaining records up to date
  • Responsible for assisting MPIP with various billing/coding issues and provider information
  • Responsible for appealing all rejected claims assigned to the department. Responsible for monitoring internet bulletins on each insurance plans to obtain updated information and changes

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in billing and coding in various specialties
  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records
  • Skilled in CPT, ICD-CM, coding rules and guidelines.
  • Ability to use computerized system

Required Qualifications
* A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus at least two (2) years of coding and reimbursement experience that includes procedural and diagnosis coding. OR * A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus successful completion of a recognized procedural and diagnosis coding course.
