Position Description
Performs maintenance, repair and operational duties on campus buildings, associated systems and equipment. Areas of work include HVAC, electrical, fire alarms, special systems, and minor construction. Work is performed with emphasis on electrical related maintenance and monitoring work (e.g. high and low voltage panels, transformers, generators). Responds in an effective and efficient manner to standard and urgent calls related to electrical, fire alarms, elevator, plumbing and mechanical equipment. Provides shift coverage as needed by the Department. Performs and completes basic maintenance and related activities. Additionally, work will be assigned in variety of facility types including classrooms, laboratories, offices, common & mechanical spaces and exterior locations. Assist with coordination of tasks and teams with other facility staff or outside vendors to complete assigned duties. The position requires the use of initiative and independent judgment to coordinate work of an assigned team. Must be willing to cover 24/7 shifts as needed.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Installs, operates, and repairs electrical equipment and systems of all types in accordance with the latest NEC guidelines.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on all existing electrical systems and equipment.
  • Keeps all work areas and related electrical equipment and/or tool rooms clean at all times.
  • Takes care of all tools belonging to the institution that are being used by the electrical department.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as assigned that utilize the employee's education, experience and unique skill set.
  • Performs regular electrical work after hours, weekends and holidays as deemed necessary by supervisor depending on workload and customer's needs.
  • Provides quick and efficient response to work related emergencies during normal business hours, after hours, weekends and holidays.
  • May cover 24/7 shifts if required.
  • Must have and maintain valid State of Texas drivers license and be listed as an approved driver as determined by Risk Management and Insurance carrier. Must be able to pass the employee criminal background check.
  • Actively participates and completes training, personal development, and continuing education.
  • Updates, maintains and coordinates information and schematic drawings pertaining to the facilities’ mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation or other state OR
  • Four years of job relevant experience, and training.
