Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for the planning, organization, direction, and evaluation of patient care services (primarily nursing services) within an assigned specialty or sub-specialty area in one of the ambulatory clinics. Persons in this position provide supervision and direction to subordinate nursing personnel, coordinating the nursing service with the medical services in order to provide an efficient and professional environment for optimum production in health care for the patient. Employees are also responsible for providing professional nursing care within the assigned area of work. Supervisory duties include but are not limited to interviewing applicants for vacant nursing positions and making the final selection, maintaining personnel records regarding leave time, evaluations, and personnel problems, conducting employee evaluations, approving and coordinating leave time for nursing personnel, and assisting personnel in setting work-related goals. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Manages clinic activities with clinic manager and address changes to staff.
  • Directly supervises 16-18 employees.
  • Able to communicate changes, issues and other important information that impacts patient, staff and the flow of the clinic.
  • Provides professional nursing care to patients and administration of drugs.
  • Responsible for planning, developing, implementation and monitoring department goals and procedures based on federal law/Medicare regulations and JACHO.
  • Monitors safe and legal parameters for nursing staff.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

Occasional Duties
  • Manages consultations with physician.
  • Responsible for patient education.
  • Manages medical equipment, supplies and maintained medication inventory.
  • Responsible for preparing Position Descriptions (PD)
  • Manages overall nursing activities in clinic and assures that policies and procedures are being followed based on Texas standards.
  • Identify that appropriate tasks are assigned to an unlicensed all unlicensed and licensed personnel and maintains delegation.

Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. 
License/Certification:
  • Current RN license in the State of Texas or ability to obtain a Texas license. 
Experience:
  • At least four years in nursing, with at least two of those years in a supervisory capacity.
