Position Description
Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with Ph.D studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Organize and conduct laboratory research both independently and in collaboration with others under the direction of Senior Staff/Faculty
  • Advise and mentor junior researchers on research methodology and quantitative data management or analysis
  • Maintain accurate records of research undertaken
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Will prepare manuscripts, technical reports or posters reporting the research. Co-writing original papers for publication in peer-reviewed medical or scientific journals
  • Assist win the preparation of grant applications; may manage funded grants
  • Represent the Center of present research at conferences, speaking engagements, and events

Preferred Qualifications
The incumbent will plan, design and conduct highly technical and complex research projects independently and in consultation with their supervisor, which will require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation. The most important attributes for the candidate are scientific aptitude, a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. The candidate should be proficient in basic lab skills related to cell culture and molecular biology; we can provide additional specialized training appropriate to the project. The candidate must be willing to work with mice, blood samples, bacteria and viruses.

The following are highly desirable for the position, but not absolutely required: Knowledge of the immune system, in particular relating to innate immunity inflammation and/or sepsis. Experience handling mice. Experience with small animal surgeries and injections, creations of bone marrow chimeras, humanized mice. Experience managing mouse analysis and ELISA.  Experience working under BSL-2/BSL-2+ conditions.

Required Qualifications
Ph. D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., D.Sc., M.D.) in area of project specialization, knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.
