Major/Essential Functions
  • Works closely with faculty and senior staff of the research division to plan, coordinate, and manage clinical specimens.
  • Under the supervision of the biorepository director and admin core, this individual will conduct sample collection, transport, preservation, preparation, analysis and storage of all study specimens.
  • Receive, unpack and process incoming study specimens for histology per protocol and using standardized processes.
  • Enter and maintain data into the Open Specimen biorepository LIMS.
  • Prepare samples for testing by centrifuging and isolating plasma serum from whole blood.
  • Aliquot specimens and manage sample storage inventory, print labels and label tubes and batches; provide tissue processing.
  • Provide equipment maintenance and maintain equipment logs and records; apply quality control measures, such as sterilization and support the administrative functions of the lab as required.
  • Document responses when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications and assist with training of new personnel.
  • Coordinates progress reporting for sponsor agency. Work with various oversight departments in submitting all related documents for regulatory purposes.
  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator and the administrative core staff assigned to the grant to ensure adequate communication, and coordination of the mentoring committees and external mentors.
  • Order and receive laboratory supplies; track and maintain inventory; of laboratory stock for daily operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Faculty/PI.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of modern histology protocols, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational, and research policies and activities.
  • Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and direction as needed.

Pay Statement
