Major/Essential Functions
Performs scientific research, including: inducing sepsis in mice and determining how disease is influenced by specific genes, physiological processes and experimental treatments, culturing primary cells, and performing assays of immunological function.

Assists with the supervision of graduate students and volunteers.

Assists in the preparation of manuscripts, posters, grant applications and IRB/IACUC applications.

Presents data at lab meetings and regional and national meetings.

Preferred Qualifications
The candidate should have a Ph.D. or M.D. and a strong enthusiasm for research in the field of sepsis, innate immunity and inflammatory biology.  The most important attributes for the candidate are scientific aptitude, a positive attitude and strong work ethic. The candidate should be proficient in basic lab skills related to molecular biology; we can proved additional specialized training appropriate to the project. The candidate must be willing to work with mice, blood samples, and bacteria.

The following are highly desirable for the position but not absolutely required: Knowledge of the immune system, in particular relating to innate immunity, inflammation and/or sepsis. Experience handling mice. Experience with small animal surgeries and injections, creation of bone marrow chimeras and/or humanized mice. Experience managing mouse colonies. Experience with immunological assays including FACS and ELISA. Experience working under BSL-2/BSL-2+ conditions.

Required Qualifications
