Position Description
Performs instructional and educational work while serving as a teacher in a classroom/lab. Organizes and develops course work, coordinates classes for students, observes and assesses the needs of the students. Maintains communication both formally and informally with students and other educators. May supervise clerical, professional and/or technical employees and lab students working for college credit.

Major/Essential Functions
1. Supervise and manage the work of the Senior Teachers in the Spanish program.
2. Provide Spanish education approximately 70% time and effort, primarily delivering instruction in first and second year medical/dental student curriculum.
3. Provide leadership in the development, continuing improvement, and implementation of the required Spanish course(s) primarily for first and second year medical/dental students. 
4. Develops selected activities and courses for 3rd and 4th year medical/dental students and residents as requested by the Chair of the Department. 
5. Develop Spanish or Bi-lingual Grand Rounds.
6. Oversee selection and use of software related to assessment of Spanish knowledge level and software used for Spanish learning and teaching. 
7. Work collaboratively with the Chair of the Department, and course directors of PLFSOM and WLHSDM to integrate Spanish content into the respective curricula.
8. Participate in scholarly activity in collaboration with faculty.
9. Serve on departmental and institutional committees and task forces.
10. Other Duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
Position Specific Qualifications:
-Master's degree in Spanish, Hispanic Linguistics or related field.
-Proficiency in English, and native or near-native proficiency in Spanish.
-Significant documented experience as a Spanish language educator in a Higher Education setting. 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Ph.D. or equivalent in Spanish, Hispanic Linguistics or related field. 
-A record of success as an educator with significant experience in teaching Spanish to health professional students. 
-Experience with innovative teaching methods such as interactive large and small group formats, team-based learning, case-based learning, and problem-based learning.
-Training or experience in curriculum development and performance evaluation of health professional students. 
-Experience with standardized patients and/or clinical simulation. 
-Participation in national organizations or committees devoted to medical, dental or health professions education. 
-Evidence of scholarship in medical, dental or health professions education. 
-Experience in the development of grant proposal and the management of extramural funding
