Position Description
To perform specialized clerical and secretarial duties in support of the medical staff/faculty of the TTUHSC. Employees in this position are responsible for performing varied and complex office duties which require a thorough knowledge of departmental and institutional policies and procedures, as well as medical and scientific terminology. Work is performed under general office conditions requiring a high degree of telephone and personal contact with HSC faculty, staff, patients, and outside professionals. Work is also performed under pressure of deadlines, which may include frequent requests for urgent reports.

  • Provides general secretarial support for physicians.
  • Provides editorial services in support of physicians activities.
  • Facilitates, monitors, and secures request for department work orders to include media request.

Preferred Qualifications
Excellent customer service skills. Ability to write routine documents such as memos, grants, etc. Knowledge of Medical Terminology. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with others. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Knowledge of office practice and procedures. Good reading and writing skills; excellent typing skills; display accurate and skillful use of personal computer and assigned software such as, but not limited to, Word, Excel, Power Point and other similar software. Excellent telephone etiquette. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

  • Assists in preparing annual research report and other periodic research reports.
  • Organizes and sets up General Medical faculty meeting to include taking minutes.
  • Travel request for new and current faculty and staff.

Required Qualifications
* A minimum of a High school diploma or GED.

* At least 90 days experience as a Medical Secretary Trainee. OR * Three years of secretarial experience with 1 year in a medical or educational setting.
