Position Description
Conducts electroneurodiagnostic (END) tests such as electroencephalograms, evoked potentials, polysomnograms, or electronystagmograms. May perform nerve conduction studies.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Prepare, operate and maintain electroencephalograph machines (e.g. equipment setup and data recording).
  • Make the necessary adjustments when necessary.
  • Technician must understand equipment and follow procedures.
  • Must be able to correct for electrical and mechanical interference.
  • Ensure patient safety at all times, clean and maintain machine between tests.
  • Process data and results, communicate information to physician.
  • Identification of ictal patterns, types of seizures and notification to physician in a timely manner.
  • Obtain medical history of patients' neurological disorders and apply electrode to patients' head, chest, arms, legs or spinal columns depending on EEG procedure.
  • Record medical history in EMR system.
  • Display understanding and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Read and distinguish particular kinds of brainwave patterns.
  • Monitor of patients' procedure.
  • Adjust video cameras to keep patient in view and in focus, oversee and adequate function of EEG recording equipment, administer or monitor performance tasks.
  • Maintain the integrity of the monitoring procedure, call appropriate personnel to assist when problems occur in a timely manner.
  • Assist with request/process authorizations for services for EMU and EEG.
  • Work with Verification Section to ensure required authorizations are submitted and finalized prior to services.
  • Schedule and call patients, educate patients on test(s), inform patients on what is required before test(s) (EEG, EMU, Ambulatory EEG nerve conduction study& EMG).
  • Overnight travel to outreach centers in West Texas to provide EEG services.
  • Work with Medical Director & Clinic Manger to schedule patients for Outreach clinics in West Texas to provide services as needed to patients.

Preferred Qualifications
  • BLS or CPR required.
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish. EEG Certification and/or registration.
  • Trained in use & routine maintenance of equipment, recognition of ictal & interictal electrograhpic patterns, resultant expertise in the management of clinical seizures-related medical emergencies.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years related experience OR one year as a Neurodiagnostic Technologist Assistant in the HSC Neurodiagnostic Technologist Career Track.
  • Prepares for American Board of Registration of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET) registry with intent to register within 2 years.
