Major/Essential Functions
  • Participates as a member of the clinical team and communicates with them on a regular basis
  • Offers clinical guidance and scientific advice to other health professionals on the selection, performance and interpretation of clinically relevant investigations to facilitate the diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and understanding of health and disease
  • Participates in the clinical care and management of patients as appropriate
  • Participates as required in an out-of-hours clinical advisory role
  • Ensures quality of service provided in all aspects of clinical chemistry, toxicology and point of care testing and analytical methods and instrumentation/automation by overseeing selection/recommendation, implementation and performance evaluation of analytical methods and instrumentation, quality control, quality assurance, quality improvement measures and adherence to governmental and regulatory (CLIA, CAP, TJC) guidelines and standard laboratory practices
  • Initiates and participates in clinical audit of laboratory services
  • Participates in teaching activities for medical students, residents and laboratory employees
  • Participates in research and/or scholarly activities in the department
  • Participates in committees and other administrative duties as assigned
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster SOM Declaration of Faculty Professionalism Responsibility
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA and departmental billing regulations

  • Regional or emerging national reputation for the rank of Associate Professor or higher

Required Qualifications
  • MD/DO or PhD Degree
  • Board-certified in clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology (for applicants with MD/DO degree)
  • Board-certified in clinical chemistry by American Board of Clinical Chemistry (for applicants with PhD degree)
  • Demonstrated laboratory management experience
