Major/Essential Functions
  • In collaboration with the Department of Surgery Chair, the candidate will provide leadership in the strategic direction of the division
  • Provide medical education to medical students/residents
  • Participate in research activities and/or projects
  • Actively participate in the academic mission of the Surgery Department
  • Perform a wide variety of pediatric surgical procedures
  • Provide in-patient and out-patient care
  • Ensure that the region's pediatric surgery call schedule is completed and sent out to contracted hospitals
  • Participate in Emergency room call panel at contracted hospitals
  • Create global health as an area of surgical emphasis
  • Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based pediatric surgical care and the development of quality improvement initiatives
  • Adhere to institutional and departmental policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations
  • Demonstrate professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Statement of Faculty Professional Responsibility

Required Qualifications
  • M.D/D.O.
  • Successful completion of ACGME accredited residency training in General Surgery
  • Successful completion of ACGME accredited fellowship training in Pediatric Surgery
  • Texas Medical License or eligible for licensure in the State of Texas
  • Board certification in pediatric surgery by the American Board of Surgery
  • Emerging regional or national reputation for the rank of associate professor
