Major/Essential Functions
Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under director and responsibility of physician. Provides primary care as part of a health care team in an ambulatory setting in a particular discipline. Provides patient education and counseling as well as physical assessment. May participate in teaching programs for students and residents. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, other clinic personnel and outside professional. May require travel to outreach clinics, home visits, participation in educational efforts and special programs that occur outside of normal working hours.
11. Knowledge and adheres to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures; attends mandatory training provided and requested by TTUHSC.
12. Other duties as assigned.

- Provides primary care as a part of health care team in an ambulatory setting. Assists faculty/residents in performing procedures as needed within the scope of practice.
- Elicits details patient history, examines patient, performs comprehensive physician examination, and compiles patient medical data including health history and results of physical.
- Work is performed in an outpatient setting and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families and other Emergency Medicine personnel and outside professionals.
- Develops and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regiments, emotional problems of daily living and health maintenance.
- Administers/orders diagnostic tests such as x-rays, electrocardiogram and other laboratory tests; interprets test results for deviations from normal.
- May render emergency medical service without supervision, pending the arrival of a responsible physician, in cases where immediate diagnosis and treatment to avoid disability or death.
- Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and managing infection.
- Writes prescriptions in accordance with approved protocols or scope of practice.
- Works efficiently in teams and within the PCMH (Patient-Centered Medical Home) model.

Required Qualifications
- Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association.
- Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer the license to Texas.
- Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing.
- Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer the license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
