Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for providing professional nursing care in an assigned specialty or sub-specialty clinic. They perform a variety of general and specialized nursing duties as part of a total health care team to provide the patient with complete evaluations. Employees in this position generally assist the head nurse in the supervision of other clinic personnel and may substitute for this person in the event of his/her absence. May supervise and instruct subordinate nursing personnel. Receives supervision from head nurse or physician, functions independently within guidelines. May supervise ancillary nursing personnel in the performance of certain tasks, and assists in training personnel. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Daily oversight of clinic operations along with Dept Clinic Managers: to ensure smooth clinic operations and patient care
  • Assist and guide Clinic Managers with staff in the following areas; recruiting, evaluations, training, disciplinary actions and meetings
  • Develop clinical and departmental policies and procedures in coordination with appropriate resources (such as Risk Management, Quality Improvement, Administration, Clinic Managers, etc.) with patient and follow doctor's instructions at all times. Attend administrative, supervisory, committee, and staff meetings for continued development of clinic and departmental center of excellence
  • Oversee and promote required quality improvement compliance standards within the department’s clinics to meet; department, institution, Joint Commission and any other required standards
  • Work closely with Infection Control and Sterilization managers/departments to ensure appropriate cleaning and sterilization process are in place and to resolve any issues encountered
  • In collaboration with clinic managers investigate any issues related to patient care or clinic processes not meeting safety or required standards in order to reevaluate to make changes as needed for improvement
  • Secure necessary resources to assist with staff performance and patient care (e.g. equipment, internal and external resources, committees, etc.)

Occasional Duties
  • Oversee and assist clinic managers and staff with operation and maintenance of all new, specialized, and established equipment to include but not limited to medical and medication supplies and inventory
  • Implement new or revised clinic process in coordination with departments such as Quality Improvement, Risk Management, Infection Control, Safety Services, etc.
  • Coordinate with department clinic managers to facilitate quality improvement measures in order to meet required standards; departments, institutional, Joint Commission, etc.
  • Assist to continue to educate and train staff to adhere to established process and required standards
  • Ensure new clinic equipment, supplies, and medications are appropriate and approved use; research how items need to be stored, cleaned, and/or sterilized
  • Audit and monitor performance data to improve staff performance and patient care
  • In coordination with TTUHSC and UMC Risk Management create clinic and hospital procedure consents as needed and for any incoming specialties
  • Consult, Coordinate, and Collaborate with outside resources to expand clinic services and patient care (e.g. UMC depts, Surgical Centers, etc.)
  • Other Duties and Projects as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of a Board of Nursing accredited program of professional nursing or scheduled to complete a program of professional nursing within 120 days of applying for a position
  • Current Registered Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practice professional nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas
  • New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure
  • Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX- RN) on the first attempt
  • No experience required
