Major/Essential Functions
  • This position will work in the Department of Psychiatry Southwest Brain Bank studying the biological causes of mood disorders (major depression and bipolar disorder) primarily through the use of human post mortem tissue and clinical research
  • Develops and implements highly complex scientific studies using a variety of techniques including but not limited to polymerase chain reaction (PCR and RT-PCR), protein measurement (ELISA, Luminex, Western, dot blotting), microscopy (light and confocal), florescence cell sorting (FACS),FAX cell sorting
  • Participates in teaching and training Psychology interns, psychology post-doctoral trainees, residents, fellows and medical students including presentation of lectures
  • Participates in academic research and scholarly activities in the Department of Psychiatry
  • Participates in committees and other administrative duties as assigned
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA
  • Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine’s Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Biological related field with thesis subject related to brain biology
  • Post-Doctoral training, minimum 3 years training in neuroscience related field
  • Human clinical trials management experience studying mood disorders biology and treatment
  • Experience in working with human living and postmortem tissue for the study of mental illness
  • Working with human tissue, blood and CSF
  • Detailed knowledge of human brain biology and brain anatomy
  • Publication record on neuroscience related to mood disorders
  • Experience in grant writing
