Position Description
Performs responsible and complex duties associated with a specialized function of a section of clerical employees. Duties may be generally described as: planning, assigning, coordinating, directing, scheduling, evaluating, verifying, training, and processing of information. A thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and methods for the area of responsibility is required. Initiative and independent judgments are frequently exercised in formulating procedures or methods, and in program coordination. Work is performed under general supervision within University policies and procedures. Job performance is based upon overall operation effectiveness.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Types routine forms, labels, correspondence and other materials from copy, rough draft, or instructions
  • Systematically records information, such as posting to journals and ledgers according to instructions
  • Maintains files of correspondence, records, reports, and other materials; files material alphabetically, numerically, or by other predetermined classification
  • Prepare, pulls and processes patient paperwork, incoming study results, labs and other data accordingly in EMR and for PCP review
  • Indexing
  • Track consults, and other reports according to instructions
  • Processes referrals and pre-authorizations to other providers, ancillary services, organizations or hospitals as indicated
  • Receives, places and returns calls on various departmental issues to include patient requests
  • Assisting supervisors and other coordinators with various clerical duties. Typing and Word Processing letters, special forms, etc.
  • Assists specialist office with referrals
  • Maintains patients abreast of their insurance coverage information
  • Peer to peer review
  • Verifies CPT and ICD-9 coded procedures for insurance authorization
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor within the policies for the department and TTUHSC in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department

  • Excellent office assistant
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English
  • Display knowledge of personal computers to include use of Word, Outlook
  • Ability to file documents and files accurately and efficiently
  • Self motivated
  • Well organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple duties
  • Knowledge of processing referrals and pre-authorizations
  • Work experience in a medical setting
  • Work experience in processing referrals
  • Work experience in pre-authorizations

Required Qualifications
