Position Description
Manages and directs the day to day operations of a research center/institute or medium sized department. Plans, coordinates and supervises the operation and activities of the center/institute/department. Develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Provide comprehensive, high-level direction, development, management and execution of a complex financial budget, revenue, and fiscal management area of the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing.  Will include, but not limited to, management of expenditures, cash receipts, reconciliations, year-end closing, and adherence to budget preparation deadlines for institutional, university, school or grant authorities
  • In collaboration with the Dean of the school of nursing, Associate Dean(s), faculty and staff, responsible for the strategic development and execution of the fiscal plan in conjunction with institutional, school and departmental goals and objectives
  • Supervise, delegate, and evaluate financial staff employee(s) in relation to their area of responsibility and oversight.  Provide departmental budget instruction and guidance to department heads and/or staff as needed.  Evaluate assigned goals and objectives to ensure completion and compliance with set institutional guidelines and standards
  • Advise and provide guidance to the Dean, Associate Dean(s), and department heads on collaborative and innovative improvements and/or projects to accomplish the school's financial and administrative strategy.  Evaluate assigned goals and objectives to ensure completion and compliance with set institutional guidelines and standards

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

Occasional Duties
  • Coordinate, compile and submit deliverables, ad-hoc, and scheduled financial reports under the departmental scope of work within set timelines.  As needed, coordinate, generate and compile financial report distribution requested by institutional, university, school or relevant outside agencies and/or grant authorities
  • Undertake complex tasks as assigned by the university Vice President of Finance/Chief Financial Officer and school administrative team.  Attend monthly and ad-hoc meetings with the Chief Financial Officer and other administrators (institutional or university) regarding operations, fiscal and budgetary management
  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate school internal controls and internal policies and procedures that are consistent with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso policies and procedures.  Ensure business operational integrity, fiscal and budgetary management adherence

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred
  • Six years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education beyond Bachelor's may substitute for experience on a year for year basis

Position specific qualifications
  • Significant knowledge and experience of accounting financial management in business matters, strong analytical, organizational and communication skills
  • Significant, demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and managing financial and administrative policies and procedures
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in financial reporting and financial analysis
  • Collaborative management style, ability to build effective teams and oversee clerical staff in relation to fiscal management assignments
