Performs varied and complex duties in the daily operation of a Clinical Simulation Center that include programming and operating simulators for assigned exercises

Major/Essential Functions
  • Provides support and operation for the implementation of all simulation activities at TECHS including instruction and debriefing as appropriate for level of training and background
  • Coordinates and schedules simulation events for TECHS in coordination with TECHS Directors
  • Leads exercise planning with clients, assisting in scenario development, and understanding of medical, simulator and audiovisual equipment available to support simulation-based educational activities
  • Prepare, setup, operate, and tear down of simulation-based learning activities according to planned case objectives
  • Maintain knowledge and function of simulation learning management systems. Ensures scenarios and utilization are entered to support data capture and utilization review
  • Maintains equipment, including cosmetic, mechanical, electronic functioning. Troubleshoot, repair, and service all high fidelity simulators and task-trainers within scope of training, and work with vendors to ensure equipment is functional
  • Assists in developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting operations of the simulation center
  • Collaborates with simulation center staff and campus educators to assure quality control related to simulations
  • Provides theatrical production (costuming and moulage) for simulation scenarios as requested.  Mixes fake body fluids and creates wounds
  • Reviews inventory lists in CAE LearningSpace and TTUHSC EL Paso campus inventory and property management systems. Update systems as needed, including tracking of loaned equipment and assisting with annual inventory review

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Registered Nurse (RN), Paramedic, or Respiratory Therapist Health Care Provider
  • AHA certification as an Instructor in ACLS / PALS
  • Certification as Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist

Pay Statement
Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

Occasional Duties
  • Serves as liaison between simulation center and institutional advancement to promote TECHS activities to interested programs on and off campus. Support and lead tours for educators and prospective faculty/learners ensuring tours do not disrupt educational activities
  • Perform inventory review of disposable medical and simulation equipment. Report identify needs to Business Manager/Director(s) to allow timely ordering of equipment and tools to support simulation-based educational activities
  • Curate and maintain manuals and documents from manufacturers on appropriate use, storage, and maintenance requirements of equipment
  • Attend scheduled and ad-hoc departmental planning and review meetings, including active participation in continuing education and professional development activities to advance knowledge of simulation-based educational practice, and medical knowledge
  • Maintain active involvement in a professional simulation society Ex. (SSH, INACSL, SimGHOSTS, ASPE, etc.)
  • Performs others duties as required or assigned by simulation center Director(s)

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework in a related area plus two (2) years related full-time paid experience OR a combination of related full-time paid experience and/or education to equal six (6) years
