Position Description
Reviews official medical records for documentation and audits for appropriate CPT, ICD-10 CM, HCPC’s codes and modifier selections for all coder(s) / physician/healthcare provider(s) services from current editions of official coding sources

Major/Essential Functions
  • Conducts routine monitoring of department coder(s)/provider(s) in accordance with written Billing/Compliance program policies and procedures
  • Timely responds to coding/documentation questions from campus faculty/staff
  • Assist with administrative duties as directed by Supervisor(s)
  • Promptly report any activity believed to be in violation of law, unethical or in violation of TTUHSC El Paso policies and procedures Program requirements
  • Must maintain database entries for completion of audits

Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of three (3) years of coding and reimbursement experience that includes procedural and diagnosis coding
  • Current certification through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) in the following areas: Certified Coding Specialist-Physician based (CCS-P), Certified Coding Specialists (CCS), Certified in Healthcare Privacy (CHP), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Associate, Current certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) in of the following areas:  Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPH-H)
