Position Description
Responsible for processing of and submitting replies to incoming referrals to all Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso Clinics, from both internal and external referring sources; to include referral receipt, review, sorting, registration, scheduling, and obtaining insurance verifications and authorizations. Work in close coordination with staff of the Contact Center. Work under the supervision of a unit manager or supervisor. Most work is performed according to established procedures; problems of an unusual nature are referred to supervisor. Ability to communicate effectively internally and externally. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Work is performed in usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, HSC staff, and insurance companies.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Processing of incoming referrals to include: referral receipt, referral review and sorting per institutional processes, request of new referral when applicable. 
  • Interaction with patient and/or referral sources, new patient registration/update and scheduling.
  • Obtain Insurance authorization and financial counseling.
  • Submitting consultants’ replies for incoming referrals to referring sources following institutional processes.

Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of customer service, office or related experience required with (2) two years of the experience in a healthcare setting
  • Additional education may substitute for the experience requirement
