Position Description
Employees in this position generally assist the head nurse in the supervision of other clinic personnel and may substitute for this person in the event of his/her absence. May supervise and instruct subordinate nursing personnel. Receives supervision from head nurse or physician, functions independently within guidelines. May supervise ancillary nursing personnel in the performance of certain tasks, and assists in training personnel. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Serves as patient advocate from diagnosis to end of active treatment
  • Assesses patients medical, social, psychosocial, financial and other care needs
  • Provides appropriate teaching, education, outreach, and support to patients, families and significant others
  • Participates in organizational conference, Multi-Disciplinary Meetings (MDM) and/or other meetings, as necessary
  • Maintains current on the latest oncology nursing developments and participates in organizational conferences
  • Collaborates with medical providers, patient care staff and clinic management in the planning and implementation of patient and staff education
  • Performs direct patient nursing care for Oncology patients
  • Supervises RN and CMA and ensures proper expectations are met
  • Works with physician and clinical research office to facilitate, coordinate and ensure patient access to Clinical Trials

Required Qualifications
Graduate from an approved accredited nursing program; current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer license to Texas. Two years of Registered Nurse experience in a specialty area.
